Olympic committee 'sorry' for Korea mistake
Olympic organisers have issued an apology after South Korea was wrongly introduced as North Korea in the opening ceremony.
As the rain-soaked South Korean athletes waved the flag of their country, the announcers presented them as the "Democratic People's Republic of Korea".

Kevin Durant WILL star in Team USA basketball opener
As long as there are no last minute changes, fans WILL see Kevin Durant take to the court for Team USA in their group C opener.
He is a three-time Olympic gold-medallist and Team USA's all-time leading scorer so him being fit for the opener against Serbia will be a huge boost.
If all goes according to plan, with Kevin Durant fit, a basketball gold medal should be nailed on for the US stars.

USA and GB star in gymnastics
Finishing second to Team GB in its subdivision, Team USA are in fine form to make the eight-team final.
The heavy hitters of Japan and China are still to come, which could make things difficult as they look to seek out a place on the podium.
It was a rough day for Team USA 2022 Champion Brody Malone, who fell off of the horizontal bar twice and finished behind both of his teammates Frederick Richard and Paul Juda.

Will Titmus thrive under the pressure, or will Katie show her who's boss when it comes to crunch time?

First swimming session - Team GB and USA thrive
Both British teams have booked their spots in the 4x100m freestyle relay finals.
The women for Team GB came second on their heat behind the USA team, as Abby Weitzeil and co cruised to victory.
But after the second heat, GB's time was only seventh fastest with the Aussies leading the way. Room for improvement to get on the podium tonight at 8.30pm.
In the men's heat, Duncan Scott had the Brits just about level after the first 100m.
Jacob Henry Whittle had GB third after two legs before Alexander Cohoon turned on the style with an emphatic 100m that saw Tom Dean dive in first for the last 100m.
But in a thrilling finale, Dean was pipped to the finish by the Chinese but second place and a time of 3:12.49 puts Team GB in a good position for the final (8.50pm).
In the second heat - which features USA, Australia and Canada - the Aussies came out on top in 3:12.25.
That's it for the first swimming session of the Olympics, with four golds up for grabs this evening.

Team GB win their first medal, and USA take Silver!
Synchro pair Yasmin Harper and Scarlett Mew Jensen won Team GB’s first medal of the Games as they were gifted bronze by an Aussie disaster.
The Brit duo, who won silver and bronze at the last two world championships, looked set to miss out as they trailed Aussies Maddison Keeney and Annabelle Smith with one dive to go
Harper and Mew Jansen put the pressure on with their forward three and a half somersault to finish on 302.28 - which would have been enough for a SILVER medal in Tokyo three years ago.
And then the Aussies, with a medal in their hands, blew it with a total mess-up as Keeney almost missed the board, just holding on with her right toes and throwing them completely out of kilter.
It handed bronze to Harper and Mew Jansen, behind runaway winners Chang Yani and Chen Yiwen of China and Americans Sarah Bacon and Kassidy Cook.
For Sarah Bacon and Kassidy Cook they've scooped Team USA's first medal of this Olympics too, with a sensational performance!

Up steps Adam Peaty for his heat
Adam Peaty safely through.
The Derby star said he wasn't going to go full pelt in the 100m breaststroke heat to qualify for the semis.
And he didn't need to.
He touches the wall first then takes a look at his time - 59.18secs - and a confident shrug says, 'Yep, job done, easy.'
The Brit - eyeing a third straight Olympics gold in this event tomorrow night - is all smiles as he waves to the young fans carrying GB flags in the crowd.
His semi-final will be around about 8.15pm this evening.

Back to the diving
All on the line for Harper and Mew Jensen now as they need to pull off the dive off their lives to earn bronze.
China look nailed on for gold unless they fall off the board, with America’s Sarah Bacon and Kassidy Cook looking good for silver.
Mew Jensen was slightly off again in their third dive, an error which saw them plunge from third to sixth - behind Australia, Italy and Germany - with two to go.
They got themselves back in the mix, though, with the inward two and a half somersault which scored 71.10 to move up to fourth.
But they are still 12pts behind Aussie duo Maddison Keeney and Annabelle Smith in third

All over at the hockey with Rupert Shipperly’s reverse stick effort making it 4-0 for GB just before the hooter.
That is a perfect start. But there’s no rest as the men play South Africa tomorrow night.

Team GB step up to the board
Reasonable start for GB in the dive pool, with Harper and Mew Jensen standing in third position after the two required dives.
As expected, the Chinese pair are leading the way but it’s a lot closer than expected with just 7.2 points between the top four.
Harper and Mew Jansen showed their mettle as they were just a fraction behind the Chinese with their opening backwards effort, edging ahead of the Americans.
But Mew Jensen made a slight mistake as they were a foot apart on entry to fall behind the US duo, with China top by 3pts and GB a further 4.2pts adrift.

More good news for Team GB in Men's hockey
Looking really good for the hockey boys now as Furlong has grabbed his second at the start of the final quarter.
Another low penalty corner flick, which the keeper got a stick to but could not prevent dribbling over the line, even if it didn’t reach the backboard. 3-0 up with just over 10 to go.

3m Women's synchro diving
Wet, wet, wet in Paris.
And it’s going to be splash, splash, splash as the Aquatics Centre opposite the Stade de France opens with the women’s 3m synchro platform.
GB’s Yasmin Harper and Scarlett Mew Jensen are hoping to land team GB’s first medal of the Games after taking silver and bronze in the last two world championships.
Hot favourites - of course, it’s diving - are China’s Chang Yani and Chen Yiwen, winners of the last three world titles and looking to lay down a marker as they dive first, with Harper and Mew Jensen performing their first of their five dives third.
The first two dives are required with the final three efforts at the discretion of the competitors, with degree of difficulty bringing the risk-reward element.

Bonjour from the mightily impressive La Defence Arena.
Somewhat confusingly, the swimming at Paris 2024 is NOT taking place in the purpose-built Aquatics Centre - that is being used for the diving and artistic swimming.
Instead, we are in position across town at La Defence for the first swimming action of the Games.
Adam Peaty and both the men's and women's 4x100m freestyle relay teams go for Team GB in this morning's heats.

Back underway in Men's hockey
Into the second half here with GBR beating Spain 2-0.
It has been a summer of success for the Spanish so far, with Carlos Alcaraz winning Wimbledon and the men's football side winning Euro 2024 in Berlin.
Can they add a men's hockey win in Paris to their resume and come back from behind to win this?
