Today is the 80th anniversary of Operation Overlord, the D-Day assault by air, land and sea on Nazi forces in France. My paternal grandfather, Lt. Arthur “Buddy” Miller was a CANLOAN Officer in the Operation. CANLOAN officers were Canadian Army officers “loaned” to the British Army. He was with the 9th Battalion-15th (Scottish) Infantry Division. On June 14th, 1944, Buddy, with the 15th Scottish Infantry Division, landed in Normandy on Sword Beach. On the 26th of June they fought on the front line, engaged in Operation Epsom to seize the city of Caen. Despite heavy losses, they successfully participated in major Anglo-Canadian offensives in Normandy before fighting in Belgium and the Netherlands. Buddy was shot on three separate occasions fighting through Europe, with the 3rd bullet sending him home. Each bullet was in the same leg, the final one in his ankle. The final bullet is a tragic story. Buddy, with a field rank of Major due to his superiors being casualties, along with his men were fighting house to house in the Netherlands. All the men in the house Buddy was pinned down in by a Nazi advance had been killed. Alone, and having been fighting house to house for some time and remembering the only thing left standing most of the time at the end of the battles were the house’s chimney, Buddy climbed in and up. A bullet came through the chimney hitting his ankle. He stayed up there however in immense pain to avoid being captured or killed. He could hear the Nazis speaking and yelling in German below. The lines eventually changed with the Allied advance, and Buddy heard English voices having been stuck up the chimney for some time. Propogana and Misinformation put out there at the behest of Russia, the Islamic Republic of Iran (including Hamas/Hezbollah), and the People’s Republic of China are a threat to democracy.

French authorities just foiled a jihadist attack planned for the Olympics. The accused intended to carry out a suicide attack to kill French authorities and spectators. The accused apparently believed this would make him a “martyr”. I get religious beliefs, and the right to same. I do however think that banning all forms of martyrdom, including advocating for same and saying it’s great, by making it a criminal offence is appropriate. This should apply for any religion or belief. Though martyrdom may exist in various religions, it’s dangerousness is clear.

Government of Ireland and Department of Foreign Affairs, Ireland, now that you have recognized the State of Palestine, and also intervened in support of South Africa’s claim at the ICJ a genoicide is occuring in Gaza, customary international law requires you to accept Gazan Palestinians as refugees in order to protect them until the conflict ends. I’m wondering when you will be sending an envoy and ships to the Mediterranean and organizing with the Government of Israel safe passage of all Palestinian Gazans who want to seek refuge in Ireland until the war ends?Also, to the Irish Refugee Council, are you going to be assisting the Government of Ireland and Department of Foreign Affairs, Ireland in processing the refugee applications in an expedited manner?

Is the United Nations now a failed organization like the League of Nations? In my view, it may be. The League failed with the outbreak of WWII, but understand in 1939 it was not known we were in a World War, that is an expost facto historical analysis. The United Nations will be a failed organization if we are in World War III. Some argue we are, and I’m inclined to agree with them. We have the Russo-Ukraine War, Israeli-Hamas(Iran) War, and big tension in the Asia Pacific with the Peoples’ Rupublic of China (PRC) vs. Taiwan and the Phillipines. Of note, all three of these disputes have the same sets of allies: “Collective West” vs. a Euroasian alliance of Russia/PRC/Iran. So, is the United Nations a failed organization?

100,000 children in Gaza attended this camp just this past July, less than 3 months before the October 7 attack on Israel. Note, this report is from July 2023 before the start of the Israeli-Hamas War. The current war is not caused or fueled by “Zionism” or “Zionists” as posts on here are saying. All a “Zionist” is, is a Jew who believes Israel has a right to exist, which is 99% of Jews. It’s no less antisemitic to say “the Zionists are evil” than saying “the Jews are evil”. What has caused this war is Hamas having taken control of Gaza in 2007 via election and thereafter by winning a civil war in Gaza against Fatah and the Palistinian Authority, then indoctrinating Gazans for the past 15 years, including these 100,000 children, that it is better to die than not kill the Jews in Israel.

As it turns out, Israel did not strike the refugee camp as the outcry claims. They did strike a Hamas compound, which appears to have had munitions therein. It appears Hamas’s munitions then exploded, causing the dispar that it did. Of interest, there is a video of the small bomb hitting the compound filmed from the camp, and nothing happens to the camp at impact. Hamas needs to surrender and stop hiding close to civilians and in civilian infrastructure. It needs to be made clear Hamas no longer governs Gaza, Hamas will never govern Gaza again, and they’re done.

Veronika Melkozerova has become a leading war correspondent on the Russo-Ukrainian War, while also continuing to report on internal governances issues in Ukraine. Veronika’s concern with the effect of misleading and bias headlines as stated in this post, is entirely meritorious. Studies have shown that misleading or misinformation headlines can bias the reader, effect the interpretation of the content of the article. Most mportant to know is that studies show headlines effects both the view and behaviour of the reader. The example here, that “Russia seeks Ceasefire” is a good one. It’s not a ceasefire to conquer part of another county by invasion, say let’s stop shooting and Russia gets to keep the conquered territory. Further, Russia just wants a ceasefire for a few years so it can build up its capabilities to take all of Ukraine.
