Poconos, Pennsylvania

The Pocono Mountains are known for their beautiful hiking trails, campsites, skiing and being extremely family-friendly. One of the popular areas to visit is Bushkill Falls, known as the Niagara of Pennsylvania” for its scenic waterfalls. With a network of hiking trails and bridges, you can easily see the views of the falls and the surrounding forest.

St. Michaels, Maryland

Located on the bay, St. Michaels is a popular boaters’ destination. On land, check out the town’s main attractions, Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum and Hooper Straight Lighthouse.

Lake Champlain, Vermont

Lake Champlain is a breathtaking natural freshwater lake, 124.9 miles long. The lake draws in outdoor adventurers all year long, where you can enjoy taking in hiking, boating, beaching or fishing.

With its main borders in the United States, and some in Canada, you can access the lake from Vermont and New York. The perfect weekend trip for couples, a girls’ getaway, or a family vacation, the Virgin Islands of the Caribbean will enthrall you with its culture and beautiful scenery. The perfect tropical paradise, and the cherry on top of the cake, there is no passport required to get there! Take in the 3,000 years of human history in the Virgin Islands National Park, which is a great place for hiking.

Explore the three main islands: St. Croix, St. John, and St. Thomas and lounge on the gorgeous beaches all day long. Another no-brainer choice for all nature lovers is the national treasure, Joshua Tree. With almost 800,000 acres of natural desert land, this destination is famous for its namesake trees (the Joshua tree) that can only be found here. Spend the day hiking on the many different types of trails available, and make sure to check out some of the restaurants nearby, such as Pappy & Harriet’s for BBQ and live music.

While we recommend this destination as a place for a camping excursion, there are many other lodging options for those who don’t prefer to sleep under the stars (although you really should—there’s nothing like the night sky in Joshua Tree). Grand Portage, Minnesota

Grand Portage in Cook County is the best place to view the Northern Lights in Minnesota, but that’s not the only thing that makes this a magical destination for a weekend getaway.
